Can be an easy and enjoyable filament to print with. Much more favoured than PLA because of its better strength, low shrinkage and excellent layer adhesion. It is also a great choice for projects outside being resistant to many environmental factors.
It is the perfect choice for making a functional prototype. While our filament is massive around the world we are fast gaining the reputation of the best PETG Filament in Australia.
Need more strength in your print? PETG Filament is perfect to use as it is stronger than PLA and less prone to breakages than ABS Filaments.
PETG is a very easy plastic to print with and has an appealing glossy finish. PETG is the 'go to' for printing component enclosures or mechanical parts for use outside due to its UV resistance.
Clean Print Surface
It may be a little controversial but at Print Solid we have experienced the best success with using a smooth PEI sheet to print on. Many people use and only advise using the powder coated textured sheet. Petg can be removed from the smooth sheet when it is cool enough to touch. The filament may be a little harder to remove if the sheet is cold. The smooth PEI Sheet is flexible so use that to your advantage and give it a bit of a bend.
Depending how careful you are to not touch the smooth sheet you may have to first clean the smooth sheet thoroughly with dish soap and warm water. Wipe it down with paper towel. Then to ensure a complete clean, spray the sheet with 90% IPA and wipe vigorously with a fresh piece of paper towel. Return the sheet to the heatbed making sure you do not touch the printing surface. Do not use cleaning wipes as they may leave residual chemical on the sheet which will reduce adhesion.
Correct Profile Set UpWe get amazing results printing simply by using the standard PrusaSlicer Profile for PETG. If you find you are getting 'hair' prints from excessive stringing then check your desired printing temp with a temp tower and increase your retraction settings. Our advice is to get the temperature correct first before adjusting retraction.
Keep Your Cool (most of the time)Keep your part cooling fan on when doing detailed models. The fan should only be off of the first layer to help with bed adhesion. Having the fan on will help reduce stringing but it may be best to run it at 50% speed. If you need mechanical strength more so than detail then have the fan off for all over the print. This helps the petg 3D filament keep its higher temperature and will bond to the previous layer better. Another way to increase strength with a print is to give it more perimeters. The default perimeter setting in
PrusaSlicer is two (2) so trying testing the strength change if you set it to 4 or 6.
